Hi my name is Ethan Chan. I am a rising junior baseball player at Carleton College majoring in Statistics and minoring in Chinese.
Outside of competing on the baseball field, I have applied myself in many professional fields and am very interested in a position where I will be able to work on a team of dedicated professionals that allows me to best utilize my passion for learning, creativity, and analytical mind.
Going into college, I initially was very interested in pursuing a career in medicine which is why I vigorously pursued research opportunities.
After being able to join different clubs at Carleton, I became exposed to many more career paths and realized that I wanted to be able to work right out of college.
I am currently working at Lawrence Allen & Associates as a Marketing/Investments intern. I send out targeted marketing to prominent commercial real estate firms, and conduct market research always searching for new commercial real estate opportunities. This includes creating complex financial models trying to accurately evaluate these properties.
Learn MoreI attended the Tuck School of Business and participated in a highly selective 3-week program taught by MBA faculty, providing an in-depth introduction to marketing, strategy, microeconomics, accounting, and finance. Performed a team-based valuation analyses of Urban Outfitters, including financial and strategic assessments, a DCF analysis, and a final presentation to industry executives and faculty. Linked final capstone presentation.
Learn MoreI have also worked at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center as a medical oncology intern. of Hope Medical Oncology Intern. I studied the survivability of 750 patients with stage IV kidney cancer based on their insurance type and discovered that patients with publicly-funded insurance plans have a 1.6% higher survivability rate over those with privately funded plans. I used excel to filter data from 750 patients and created statistical models to validate the hypothesis that insurance plan types are strongly correlated with survivability rates. I also was named co-author to a publication which aimed to correct the improper use of medical jargon in modern medical oncology. Poster Board is attached here.
Learn MoreI am the founder and president of the Asian Athletics Club at Carleton. This is the largest Asian student affiliated student group on campus with currently 154 members(77.3% of Asian Population at Carleton). I am a firm promoter of Asian participation in American sports because I noticed a lack of Asian participation in sports during my own journey to playing baseball in college.
I am a pitcher on the varsity Carleton baseball team. I love pitching because I enjoy being able to control the pace of the game and the pressure that comes with the whole team relying on every pitch you make. My favorite pitch to throw is the curveball because it requires a large amount of preparation and setup to be executed properly. Which is why it so gratifying to throw a curveball to a batter and get the batter out.
